The Journey so far…

Light & Life Liskeard church plant was conceived in the late Spring of 2012 . It was the result of a match made in heaven!

Mark & Bronwen Davy and Pete & Angie Taylor had felt a clear call from God to plant a church in Liskeard ,but were concerned to be both accountable and under an authority that shared a similar vision and values for the town. Unbeknown to them, at the same time, The Holy Spirit had confirmed to John Townley and others at St Austell Light and Life church that they would next plant in Liskeard and Bodmin, but that they were to wait for the Lord to bring the right leaders to them before they would make any further plans for Liskeard. Only a week or so after this was announced at the St Austell church AGM the Davy and Taylor families walked into St Austell Light and Life church for the first time.

They were intrigued by peoples apparent fascination with their Liskeard origins! Mark returned home, read the vision and values of the Light and Life churches as well as those of The Free Methodists across the UK and was very excited. After meeting with John Townley, much prayer and discussion on both sides, it didn’t take long before the decision to plant the church in Liskeard was made.

In the summer of 2012 a house group commenced on Wednesday nights. There were many joys and as well as numerous struggles over the months ahead which produced a real testing of the calling. Convinced of the need to press on, the house church began to grow further until in late 2013 monthly Sunday morning services also took place in the house. It was exciting to see the range of people God was drawing together : a mixture of friends, new arrivals to the area, new converts and some who had been away from church for years.

In April 2014 the decision was made to move the monthly Sunday meetings to the Liskerrett Community Centre and by the summer it was felt that the group meeting together was now large enough and contained the character and giftings necessary, to sustain weekly services as well as maintaining a missional outlook.

Liskeard Light & Life Church was officially launched on Sept 29th 2014 with around 65 people attending the first service including a good number in the children’s church.

One year on and the church has evolved further seeing people growing in faith and love and being released into a range of ministries – many for the first time. Relationships have been established with a number of people who have had no previous church context.

We pray that The Holy Spirit enables the next chapter to be written….and that maybe you might be part of it.
